When we first moved to Texas, I had no idea how long it would take to find a new church home. Church shopping can be so hard, but much to my surprise, we quickly settled into the same church Adam grew up at and even got plugged into a new small group right away. It soon felt like we were right at home, and a few months later we placed membership. Adeline couldn’t be happier there, and often asks to go to church just out of the blue. She also practically begs to go to Bible class as soon as worship begins on Sunday mornings, and loves singing Jesus Loves Me, which of course melts our hearts. I’m so thankful she’s growing up at such a fantastic church, and it has truly made the transition so much easier. It’s hard to believe it’s been a year this month, but a part of us feels like we’ve been here way longer. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, getting involved with a good church and meeting friends who are in a similar chapter of life as you is HUGE. I’m a firm believe that people come in and out of your life for seasons at a time, and just like I’m thankful for the church friends we made during our season in Arkansas, I’m thankful now for the friends we’re making during this season. We can’t imagine it not being a part of our lives.
Yesterday we were thrown the sweetest baby shower for Barrett by our church family and now I’m officially SO excited for his arrival. I mean I’ve always been excited, but now we’re in the homestretch and the clock is ticking! We’re less than two months away, and with every kick and roll I feel in my belly I get so anxious to meet him and finally see what he’s like! And what he looks like – still can’t fathom that one.
The shower was at my SIL’s house, and it was perfect. Hydrangeas, rustic touches, salty and sweet treats, and even a blessing tree. Adeline had the best time running around playing with the other little girlies who were there, and occasionally stopped to help me open a gift or two. She couldn’t stop talking about “baby brother” and I think it’s safe to say she’s excited too. I didn’t take many pictures, just a few of the decorations and few on my phone, so it was nice to fully enjoy the afternoon and soak it up. We ended up with a nice big haul of fun goodies, both from our registry and some special surprises, and I can’t wait to unbox it all and get it put away in the nursery. Speaking of the nursery, while we were gone, Adam got B’s dresser built, so now all that’s missing from his room is the glider and a few accents for the walls! It’s coming together!
Barrett Mitchell, you are already so loved! Your big sister can’t wait to smother you with her love and Mommy and Daddy can’t wait to figure out this whole newborn thing again! (Actually we can, and have forgotten most everything from your big sister. So, feel free to take your time arriving! Unless we make it to my due date, and then I might be forced to evict you.)
